These are the questions I asked other students about the magazine I'm researching -
1.What do you deem to be the target audience judging from the front cover/contents page/double page spread?
2.What music genre do you think this music magazine covers?
3.Do you think the fonts appropriate? What do you like about it?
4.Does the language suit the target audience? How?
5.Is the layout of the of the contents page easy to follow?
6.How is the color scheme eye catching?
7.Do you think the images are professional and appropriate?
8.Is there consistency through out?
9.How does the front cover make you want to read on?
I conducted some primary audience research in order to
-Find out what appeals to my target audience
-To discover my flaws or potential improvements that could be made to my magazine genre.
-To identify any gaps in the market and place a refreshing twist on the genre. Front Page
Contents Page
Double Page Spread
Over all in my research I found out that the majority of people did identify that NME magazine to be more for males, aged between 16- 25, also they deemed it to be Indie/Rock and the majority found that the simple and familiar language used was appropriate to a young adult audience, also the font was seen to be not only visible but vibrant to entice the audience. During my primary research the images used on the front cover of 'The Wombats' and contents page were thought to be colorful and gave the magazine personality portraying the magazine as interesting and bubbly. The colours scheme followed trough the magazine which added to the consistency of the magazine.
This research has helped me create a general idea of what I should be including in my magazine. It seems clear that the magazine has to have an exciting front cover with a vibrant colour scheme which will make it more appealing to a potential reader. The fonts especially the mast head has to be visible and clear to read from afar. Also using popular bands which appeal to a wide audience on a front cover helps to intrigue a reader in. In addition the contents page has to systematically organised thus the reader finding what they want easily.
